What to ask before you sign a modular kitchen quote in Mumbai
Two modular kitchen quotes can look similar and describe different kitchens. One names the carcass behind the sink. The other is a single figure and a shutter colour. This page is the short list of questions worth asking before you sign in Mumbai — measurements, ply grade, hardware, installation, and what happens after handover.

Mumbai Master Carpentry builds kitchens from our Fort workshop. The longer explanation of what moves a price is the modular kitchen cost guide. Layouts and finishes are on modular kitchens in Mumbai. Our indicative starting band is ₹85,000 for a roughly 10 ft straight run. That is not a package price and not a city average. Use it only as a sense of scale.
1. Measurements
A quote that was not measured in the room is a sketch. Ask whether someone stood in the kitchen.
- Wall-to-wall length, and both arms if it is an L or U
- Height to the slab or beam, not a guessed 10 ft ceiling
- Window sill height if a wall unit has to stop or step around it
- Sink, hob, fridge, and tall-unit positions
- Pipe and drain positions, and whether the wall is straight enough to need packing
Older flats in Fort, Dadar, and Bandra often need that packing. It belongs on the quote. Our site visit and drawing steps are the process we actually follow.
2. Ply grade and thickness
Ask what board is behind the shutter, especially under the sink and beside the hob. Shutters are what you see in a photo. The carcass is what meets steam and a wet sponge. Read marine ply versus commercial ply before you accept “waterproof kitchen” as a phrase. If the quote uses the letters BWP, read BWP plywood for Mumbai wet zones before you treat that word as the whole kitchen. Grade and thickness should be written per zone, not implied by a brand name on the shutter.
3. Hardware
Hinges, drawer channels, and baskets fail before a laminate colour fades. Ask:
- Hinge and channel grade, and whether soft-close is included or an extra line
- What is in the sink unit and the corner — a plain shelf, or a basket you were shown
- Who supplies the chimney and hob, and who cuts the carcass for them
- Whether handles are in the figure
If one quote is a factory package and the other is a workshop, compare them as different buying paths on factory modular vs a carpenter-built kitchen.
4. Installation
Installation is not a free extra at the end of a factory price. Ask who levels the boxes, who packs an out-of-plumb wall, and how society timings and the service lift are planned. If a stone top is in the job, ask who templates it. We do the carpentry. We do not pretend to be the stone contractor or the plumber.
Also ask how payment is staged, in writing. A quote that wants most of the money before the materials are named is a quote to slow down on. Our own stages are on payment milestones. Patterns worth questioning on any quote are on carpentry quote red flags. How to choose a workshop is on how to hire a carpenter in Mumbai.
5. After-care and warranty
Before you sign, ask what the workmanship warranty covers and for how long. Ours is a 1-year workmanship warranty on the carpentry we built. Hardware follows the maker’s terms where those apply. A warranty is not a promise that an open sink cut-out will ignore water.
Practical upkeep — edge banding, ventilation, and what to do when a band lifts — is on monsoon care for Mumbai kitchens and wardrobes. Read it once. It is maintenance, not a scare story.
A comparison you can actually use
Put both quotes next to each other and tick the same lines: measured lengths, carcass grade by zone, shutter finish, hardware grade, accessories, installation, timeline, and warranty. If one side cannot answer, you are not comparing the same kitchen. About the workshop is on the homepage if you want to know who would be building it.

FAQ
No reliable one. Itemised quotes after measurement are what you can compare. Online per-sq-ft figures are marketing ranges. Our ₹85,000 figure is an indicative starting band for a roughly 10 ft straight run, not a fixed package.
Carcass grade and thickness in the wet zone, written down. Shutter colour is easy to see and easy to change. The board behind the sink is what you live with.
Yes. Packing, levelling, and fitting are labour. A lump sum that says “including everything” makes it hard to see whether they were priced or forgotten.
Not always. If the job is the kitchen and you can choose finishes on site, a measured carpenter quote is often enough. If you want a full-home design, read carpenter or interior designer on our site and bring the drawings to the visit.
Often about 12–18 days after design approval and advance, depending on size and finish. You should see a timeline on the quote before you pay an advance.
